Our team features translators from across the world working in a wide range of fields:

Joomy Korkut

Joomy is a computer scientist who was born and raised in Turkey. He is currently a PhD student in computer science at Princeton University. While his academic work is on programming languages, he dabbles in human languages in his free time. He has worked on machine transliteration of Ottoman Turkish and designed a programming language based on grammatical cases of Turkish. He enjoys translating Turkish literature because he believes it is the best way he can share his culture with others. You can find his personal website here.

Duygu Çevik

Duygu is a translator who was born in Turkey, but now resides in Canada. Her educational background is in science. Currently, she works as a Medical Writer, which enables her to pursue both her passions: science and writing. When Duygu is not translating or writing, she loves to spend time in nature with a book in hand. You can find her personal website here.

Daniel Koehler

Daniel is a lawyer, former English teacher, and occasional translator of Turkish literature. His translation work focuses on the prose of the late Ottoman and early Republican periods and has previously been published by Asymptote and Chicago Review.

Heather Yawney

Heather is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Linguistics at the University of Toronto. Her academic work has focused on Turkish and Kazakh phonology, having various projects focusing on either the Syntax-Phonology interface or Optimality Theory frameworks. She also has an English-to-French translation certificate from the University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies and has done some translation and/or transcription contracts with the Galt Museum & Archives and York University. Heather loves working with the Translation Attached Translators Collective because it’s one way to keep the Turkish language in her life.

Sena Sarikoc Hill


Sena is a refugee protection professional and an occasional literary translator. She studied political science and international relations, Spanish, pottery and creative writing at Bogazici University. She joined the Translation Attached Translators Collective while living in Cairo in 2020. She is currently living and working in Kigali. She writes poems every now and then. She is passionate about literature, translation, cycling, hiking and travelling.

Elvan Tayhani Karataş

Elvan holds a post-graduate certificate in Government Relations from Seneca College, Toronto. Currently, she works as a communications professional. She obtained her B.A. in English Literature from Hacettepe University, Turkey, and her M.A. in International Affairs from Dokuz Eylul University, Turkey. She became a member of the Translation Attached Translators Collective due to her lifelong interest in literature. She sees literary translation as a challenge and a great way to explore new horizons. Elvan loves traveling, following art events in town, and cycling. She lives in Toronto with her husband and four-year-old daughter.
