News: Our first book launch!

We are happy to announce that the Department of Near & Middle Eastern Civilizations at the University of Toronto will be kindly hosting a book launch on Wednesday, November 2nd at 5-7 pm for our first book, a translation of Refik Halid Karay’s Stories of Exile. We’ll discuss the book itself, the challenges we faced when translating the text, and our journey from student club to publishing house. This will be a hybrid event, so that those outside Toronto can also attend. The in-person event will be followed by a reception.

As you may know, we started off as a student group at the University of Toronto, where all three of our partners (Nefise, Karolina, and Yasemin) met and got their degrees. Some of us took classes at the department, too, with some amazing professors – and Nefise even taught there while she was working on her PhD! It’ll be great to be back in the very same building where we all met and began collaborating on translations together.
